Palm Beach’s fine jewelry destination Graff welcomes Carissa Robinson to the team as its new store director. Here, Robinson talks about the big shift, style and favorite local hot spots.
Can you tell us a bit about your background in high jewelry?
After a very brief stint as a gemologist with the Home Shopping Network (HSN) in the 1990s, I quickly decided that I wanted to focus less on commercial jewelry and more on high-quality, rare and extraordinary jewelry. It was around this time that I encountered the late and legendary Fred Leighton, who offered me a position at his prestigious salon in New York. It was a wonderful experience, and I was quickly drawn into this exquisite world as I began selling to Hollywood celebrities and ultra-high-profile personalities.
What inspired you to come to Graff?
I’ve always aspired to work for Graff, and my role as salon director is undoubtedly the pinnacle of my career. Having daily access to the world’s most exceptional gemstones and the opportunity to perfectly curate a client’s collection is truly a dream come true.
What are some of your favorite Graff pieces?
Naturally, I love the floral motifs in the Carissa collection. They have dimension and personality, which I adore. I am also coveting an unheated 25-carat Kashmir sapphire ring. Its rich and velvety color is out of this world.
What is it about Graff pieces that makes sense for Palm Beach locals?
Palm Beach is all about unrestrained chic. Here, women like to stand out yet fit in, and Graff jewels make sense to them because each piece is unique and tailored to the individual client.
What do you love most about living in the Palm Beach area?
Palm Beach is magical—I’m surrounded by so much energy and the weather is perfection year-round. There’s something for everyone here, from the beaches and the epicurean delicacies to the fine arts and entertainment. The Norton and the Kravis Center are a few of my family favorites.
What are some of your favorite local hot spots?
My go-to restaurant is always Buccan, which is owned by local celebrity chef Clay Conley. I’ve known him for more than 20 years, so I always get the warmest of welcomes. I also love my friends at Bice and Le Bilboquet, both of which are fabulous.
How would you explain the Palm Beach style?
Palm Beach is all about chic and sophisticated diamonds that transition effortlessly from day to night.
What are you most looking forward to with working at Graff?
I am very much looking forward to taking my clients’ jewelry collections to the next level and meeting new clients who are looking to celebrate their milestones with something fabulous.
