From decorative objects and artifacts to historic photographs and high jewelry, these chic collectors are powered by passion.
Splitting his time between Beverly Hills and his new home in Palm Beach, jeweler, designer and tastemaker Martin Katz (martinkatz.com) has access to some of the most incredible and rare jewels in the world. An internationally recognized jeweler known for his distinctive work creating high jewelry, Katz works with gems and metals with expert artistry for discerning buyers. With a career spanning over three decades, he was one of the first independent designers to bejewel Hollywood stars for the red carpet and he is known for his unparalleled taste.
THE PASSION
His latest collaboration with Italian artist and sculpture Andrea Roggi debuted in Florence inside the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio. Featuring a bronze sculpture created by Roggi and a jeweled sphere designed by Katz to represent the energy source in an original work of art, the exhibition represents a meeting of two masters who met and shared a similar philosophy and idea to collaborate to create the Energy of Life sculpture. Two artists, one work. ““It was exciting to embark on this collaboration with such a talented artist and sculptor as Andrea Roggi,” says Katz. “I have my wife Kelly to thank for bringing us together.”
"WHEN WE FIRST DISCUSSED ENGAGING IN A COLLABORATION OF ARTISTS FROM TWO VASTLY DIFFERENT MEDIUMS, I WAS INSPIRED BY ANDREA’S SPIRIT AND VISION FOR THIS PROJECT AND HIS OFFER TO ALLOW ME FULL ARTISTIC AUTONOMY WITH THE VISION FOR THE SPHERE. THE FINISHED RESULT IS A ONE-OF-A-KIND BEJEWELED SCULPTURE THAT UNIQUELY REPRESENTS BOTH OF OUR RESPECTIVE ARTS AND WELL AS A GREAT FRIENDSHIP.”–MARTIN KATZ
THE COLLECTION
Artfully designed in relief to represent Earth, the sphere is the embodiment of the energy source for the Tree of Life sculpture. “While seemingly simple is its concept of Mother Earth, it was incredibly challenging to articulate the land masses, oceans and waterways to properly express the energy of life source,” says Katz. “To partner with Andrea Roggi on this exciting work marks a milestone in the melding of sculptural art and high jewelry.” Made in 18K white gold, the jeweled sphere was handcrafted in the workshop Atelier of Martin Katz and features more than 2000 gemstones with over 8000 setting prongs holding shades of blue sapphires, paraiba tourmalines and Tsavorite garnets and white diamonds.

Drawn exclusively from the collection of Glickman Lauder, the collection creates a poignant dialogue between a vast selection of photographs and offers an extraordinary journey through the lenses of some of the most infl uential practitioners of the 20th century. “Presence: The Photography Collection of Judy Glickman Lauder is an incredible exploration of humanity through the work and collection of Mrs. Glickman Lauder,” says Ghislain d'Humières, Director and CEO of the Norton. “We are excited to showcase works by key contributors to the history of photography, such as Henri Cartier- Bresson, Irving Bennett Ellis, Nan Goldin, Graciela Iturbide, Lotte Jacobi, Alma Lavenson, and Judy Glickman Lauder herself. THE COLLECTION
Organized into four sections, the exhibition presents a tapestry of visual narratives that explore the multifaceted nature of human experience. Using the concept of an image’s capacity to evoke a sense of “presence” as a point of departure, this selection of works from Judy Glickman Lauder’s collection shines a spotlight on the essential threads that connect and divide us, weaving together moments of vulnerability, strength, love, grief, and resilience. The exhibition features works by beloved and revered photographers, including Berenice Abbott, Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon, Imogen Cunningham, Danny Lyon, Sally Mann, Susan Meiselas, Gordon Parks, Joyce Tenneson, James Van Der Zee, and more. It will be on view at the Norton through March 10, 2024, and is organized by the Portland Museum of Art in Maine.
