Is it too soon to be dreaming about the summer season? While boots and jackets are necessary at the moment on 5th Avenue, you won’t find any cold weather gear on Worth Avenue. But one thing transcends both Manhattan and Palm Beach, and that is a great appreciation for style. That’s why iconic fashion house Oscar de la Renta, Martin and Jean Shafiroff and the Historical Society of Palm Beach County held a private cocktail event in Manhattan to celebrate the grand exhibition Endless Summer: Palm Beach Resort Wear, which just opened at the Richard and Pat Johnson History Museum in West Palm Beach.

Sponsored in part by The Palm Beaches, the exhibition examines how style has influenced snowbirds, vacationers and well-heeled residents since the 20th century. From the effortless wardrobes of Anthony’s, Bonwit Teller, and salon owner Martha Phillips, to Philip Hulitar, Chanel, Lilly Pulitzer, and St. John, Palm Beach’s unique environment significantly shaped resort wear and continues to attract those chasing the sun.

More than 100 guests at the celebration enjoyed a special fashion presentation of Oscar de la Renta’s new styles courtesy of CIBC Wealth Management, Christie’s, Sotheby’s International Realty and Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa. Following the cocktail hour, guests dined at The Lobster Club hosted by Sciame Construction. “The work of the Historical Society of Palm Beach County is important to all of us,” says Jean Shafiroff, a long-time devotee of Oscar de la Renta. “As our identity, art and culture must be preserved for future generations.”

Oscar de la Renta’s support of the exhibit also celebrates an ongoing collaboration to preserve and share fashion history in Palm Beach. “We are thrilled to partner with the Historical Society of Palm Beach County to celebrate Palm Beach's unique place in fashion history with the Endless Summer: Palm Beach Resort Wear exhibition,” says Alex Bolen, Chief Executive Officer of Oscar de la Renta. “Further, we appreciate the generosity and hospitality of our dear friends Jean and Martin Shafiroff in celebrating this exciting launch in Palm Beach."

New York State Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright presented a Citation to both Jean Shafiroff and Jeremy Johnson, President, and Chief Executive Officer of the Historical Society of Palm Beach County, honoring the nonprofit “for its dedicated mission to preserve, collect, and bring the rich history and cultural heritage of Palm Beach County to life.” Johnson expressed his gratitude to Martin and Jean Shafiroff and to Oscar de la Renta in Palm Beach and Manhattan. “It is exciting to meet others that not only appreciate our mission, but also join us in moving it forward.”
