Have you wandered the lobby of The Colony Hotel or the Brazilian Court? Ambled into C+C Gallery’s Worth Avenue space? Chances are that you’ve come across Nathan Coe’s (nathancoe.com) captivating–and sometimes cheeky–photographic images. British by birth, but a long-time Palm Beach resident who also spends time in Nantucket, Coe is known for framing fleeting scenes with cinematic allure. Every season, he produces a series of up to seven new, curated images that capture Palm Beach’s cultural and traditional zeitgeist, but with his sumptuous modern take.
To wit, for 2024, Coe was invited to bring his unique point of view into the Norton Museum of Art, arguably one of Palm Beach’s most important cultural settings. Coe brought with him the human form–the most timeless source of artistic inspiration– intermingling her with a Picasso, a Sam Durant and the massive Oldenburg and van Bruggen sculpture that greets visitors at the entrance.

“I put a lot of thought and research into the locations and models I use. When the day arrives, I just let go, shoot what I see, follow the light and my instincts,” says Coe. “At the Norton, I wanted to explore the concept of the human form within a major museum and surrounded by priceless pieces of art. While walking the museum, Sam Durant’s Stop White Supremacy installation kept speaking to me and the model. The resulting image added a new layer to Durant’s already powerful piece. I was excited to release it on Martin Luther King Day.”

Nathan Coe’s entire 2024 Palm Beach collection, along with his Norton series, is on display at C+C Gallery (candcgallery.com) on Worth Avenue. “There is so much to capture on this island,” says Coe. If you know where to look.
