No more sweatpants in this Moschino Fall 2021 collection.
Inspired by the technicolor Manhattan fashion show scene in 1939 film The Women, Moschino’s 2021 collection brings classic female glamour into the 21st century. Featuring a show within a show, big-name models Dita Von Teese, Winnie Harlow, Hailey Bieber and more donned outfits ready for work, leisure and play.
“It felt kind of meta to have fashion looking at fashion,” muses Moschino designer Jeremy Scott in an interview with Vogue UK.
The collection, titled “Jungle Red” after the infamous nail polish color, takes you on a journey from city to countryside, jungle to the theater. Presented by famed model Maye Musk, the show opened with a work-themed vignette of pinstripes and pantsuits. The ready-to-wear collection mixes campy and classic Moschino silhouettes. Pieces in the countryside collection feature the iconic Moschino cloud print, a signature of the brand since it’s start in 1983.

As the models entered the “jungles of 5th Ave. for a shopping safari,” Scott subverted the quintessential Moschino “survival” jacket. The neutral tones of the hardware-adorned utility jacket painted the picture of the explorer, while a campy black dress with a sparkly flamingo embroidered across brought the wildlife onto the stage.
“I’d never think there’s not a place to dress up,” Scott says of the abundance of gowns, some printed with brush strokes, others dripping with embellishment. From the paint-covered models in the museums scene, to the glam in the final theater section of the show, nothing will stop Moschino from creating dresses for every occasion.
The collection was the antithesis of “lockdown dressing,” noting the rise of leisure and lounge wear within the luxury fashion market. Scott’s collections have purposefully ignored that, leaning into the couture-like confections reminiscent of Franco Moschino.
“What we need now more than ever is fantasy and glamour," he told Vogue Runway. "Things that make you feel wonderful, and I don’t think sweatpants do that."

As the red curtains closed on the ball vignette, Von Teese donned a cheeky burlesque dress with a heart-shaped cut-out in the back. “The End” is inscribed onto the screen as we’re jolted back into 2021, most likely watching from home.
The 12-minute short takes viewers through a woman’s everyday life. Featuring outfits for business, leisure, upkeep, travels and balls, the show was Scott’s second digital reveal during the lockdown period.
“I wanted to do things in film that you can’t do live,” Scott told Vogue UK. Earlier in the season, Scott produced a marionette-style runway for Moschino’s Spring 2021 collection. In his second iteration, Scott found creative control with a film rather than a runway, creating something compelling and experimental.
