South Florida interior designer Susan Knight transforms a Boynton Beach home into a contemporary abode.
The living room of the home features bright pops of colorful artwork, metallic sconces and a soaring vaulted ceiling.
The foyer features a long, mirrored floating console and a pressed acrylic wall installation
Interior designer Susan Knight’s latest renovation in Boynton Beach is a picture-perfect example of how to execute a complete interior renovation, including a redesigned floor plan to maximize the flow of the space. “The foyer is the introduction to the contemporary transitional interior design of the home,” says Knight, who was hired for the project after the client saw her work in Boca Raton. “The long mirrored floating console and pressed acrylic wall installation create visual interest while drawing the eye toward the center of the home.”
The dining room is a sleek space, elevated by the glasstopped dining table from Artefacto and a metallic-accented chandelier from Judith Norman.
For Knight, the biggest challenge was striking an aesthetic balance between the varying ceiling heights, but she found success in embracing the idea of compression and expansion. “It’s a concept Frank Lloyd Wright often used in his designs, and it works beautifully in this space,” says Knight. “Highlighting the compressed linear space of the foyer creates a poignant impact when you step into the airier open living spaces. And it creates a truly visually uplifting experience in the vaulted living room.”

As you enter from the foyer, the dining room sets the stage for an open concept. “The furnishings are neutral to elevate the sense of light and air with accents of metal, glass, wood, acrylics and other textures, like the glass-topped dining table and metallic-accented chandelier,” says Knight. “It really showcases and defines the space.”

In the living room featuring vaulted 17- foot ceilings, Knight chose textural elements and artwork with pops of color juxtaposed by metallic sconces and neutral furnishings. Through a savvy use of color, texture and neutral furnishings, her philosophy that form must follow function rings true. “My favorite aspect of this project is the flow we’ve created from one space to the next—all visually connected to each other, but very much individually distinct and defined,” says Knight. “I take a very customer service-focused and team-based approach to my work, but the implementation is a partnership.”
