Folks in these parts know that when it comes to home gifts with Gold Coast flair and garments tailor-made for South Florida living, nothing beats designer Sara McCann’s two Hive shops in West Palm Beach. Here, the head of the McCann Design Group gives us the scoop on what brand fans can expect next.

The Hive stores and your design firm are such design institutions in South Florida. Can you tell us a bit on how they all came to be? After the McCann Design Group became a full-time interior design firm in 2012, I created Hive Home because we were encountering long lead times on furniture and accessories, and wanted to create an easier shopping experience for clients. Then, after our favorite clothing items there became bestsellers, we opened the Hive for Him, Hive for Her & Hive for Kids shop. This expansion has given us the space to curate a fuller selection of clothing, accessories and toys for every occasion. One of the newest aspects of the home store is an in-house floral studio. How did that come about? A home is never complete without fresh flowers, orchids and plants. They add life. What’s the main difference when sourcing for the home versus fashion categories? We curate both with the same philosophy: What would I want for my home or closet and what do I need when traveling? What’s new in terms of inventory this fall? We’ve recently acquired some amazing vintage rattan pieces, and since we’re all dining at home more, we are dedicating an entire room to dinnerware and barware. At Hive for Kids, we are planning a very festive Christmas with a pop-up toy shop and a few other surprises. And looking into the near future? Well, there’s our Hive Bakery & Cafe opening. Our husband-and-wife chef duo has been practicing recipes on my family, and our team cannot wait to share what they’ve come up with with a bigger audience.
