Designer Ray Booth Shares His Favorite Furniture Pieces

Lauren Finney | September 27, 2019 | Home & Real Estate National

Prolific, charismatic designer and author Ray Booth is a force to be reckoned with. He’s a partner at esteemed firm McAlpine and has written Evocative Interiors ($55, Rizzoli) which reveals his architectural training and his edited eye. Up next for Booth is his first collaboration with Hickory Chair. Comprising 58 pieces that exude his brand of modern elegance, the collection is as much of-the-moment as it is heritage designs in the making. Says Booth: “This collection reflects my own journey of contrasts and connections— pushing the boundaries of how we see and experience the world around us. It is my dream that these new designs will be cherished for generations in the way so many antiques have made their way into our collective consciousness.” Here are a few of his favorites. Judith Norman, 3601 N. 29th Ave., Hollywood

“This table is the perfect small drink or end table. Its steel frame offers an interesting structure to carry the rift-cut oak body with the nickel-plated top offering the perfect spot for a cocktail to rest.”

Carriage table, $4,395

“Sometimes, we all need a chair that is comfortable, generous and simple. Not everyone at a party needs to have a loud voice!”

Taperback chair, from $1,794

“This piece betrays its strength and ability to bend the laws of physics with its cantilevered marble top and drawer, played against the planar match booked veneer back.”

Strut end table, $5,571

“This chair and its companion ottoman celebrate its captivating bar stock steel legs while encouraging you to sit back and kick a leg over its low arms and nest your head in its high wing sides in comfort.”

Cradle wing chair, $5,277

“This workhorse of a cabinet is at home in a kitchen, dining room or bedroom.
In the kitchen, it offers the perfect counterpoint to cabinetry accomplishing all the function of cabinetry.”

Tansu chest, $16,161
