The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County is located in downtown Lake Worth.
The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County offers spectacular exhibitions and programming this season.
Nestled in the heart of downtown Lake Worth Beach, the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County is located in a restored historic art deco building that once served as a glamorous movie theater during the 1940s and a disco in the 1970s. Today the Robert M. Montgomery, Jr. building is home to the only organization solely dedicated to supporting arts and culture in the Palm Beaches. In addition to fostering the county’s thriving local arts scene, the Cultural Council hosts rotating exhibitions and special events of its own year-round.

Now through Jan. 14, the Contemporary Art of the Latin American Diaspora exhibition highlights works from 24 Palm Beach County artists of Latin American descent. A fresh, contemporary exhibition with a global feel, guest curator Juliana Forero, founder of Nomad Art Projects, has woven a story with the work of artists whose families come from Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guatemala and Cuba, among others.
You also won’t want to miss the profound Visualizing Climate Disruption exhibition (Jan. 27 through April 8), which recognizes local artists’ unique geographic position to observe the effects of climate disruption. With Florida on the front lines of sea-level rise, climbing temperatures, catastrophic storms, devastation of coral reefs and disappearing seagrasses, this exhibition will explore the effects of climate disruption and engage audiences in topics such as shrinking habitats, pollution and coastal resiliency.

Always a popular event, the council’s signature Culture & Cocktails program series will surely sell out its upcoming 18th season of cultural conversations. Staged this year at West Palm Beach’s hottest waterfront venue, The Ben, an Autograph Collection hotel, topics will include Palm Beach Style, moderated by Pamela Fiori and featuring conversations with Bonnie Roseman, Steven Stolman and Annette Tapert (Jan. 9); History’s Mysteries, moderated by Rick Rose and featuring interviews with Sue Gillis, Jeremy W. Johnson and Charlene Farrington (Feb. 6); and Acting, Adventures and Art, moderated by Joel Straus and featuring an interview with actress Regan Rohde (March 6).
