Exclusivity is the name of the game. Located on the island of Great Abaco in the Bahamas, The Abaco Club’s expansion plans include a long list of luxurious amenities.
Developed and managed by Southworth, The Abaco Club is adding 36 beachfront villas to The Cays, a private residential development and coveted second home choice for South Floridians. The expansion will also include the addition of a beachfront club with resort-style pool and swim-up bar.
The lifestyle club and resort-style community is renowned not only for its laid-back island location on Winding Bay but also for its combination of Caribbean glamour and classic Bahamian architecture. Featuring interior design by AvroKO with master planning and landscape by Vita, Inc., each villa will range from beachfront studio flats to seven-bedroom escapes—all designed to deliver the utmost privacy, blending indoor and outdoor spaces, lushly landscaped courtyards, and high-end kitchens that extend to an open-air terrace. Plus, hammocks and water sports galore.
“The Cays offer a truly unique opportunity for future members to join this special community we’ve cultivated—another place to call home,” says Tommy Southworth, president of Southworth. “The Abaco Club is a haven for our members and owners. Between the breathtaking location, the barefoot luxury vibe, the warmth of the staff, and so many other intangibles, we’ve always said that The Abaco Club has everything that money can’t buy.”
Owners can walk nearly everywhere to indulge in the wide range of offerings, including a round of golf, a refreshing dip in the pool, or alfresco sundowners at the new Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, The Beach House. Members will also have access to Winding Bay Beach Club, which will feature an expansive oceanfront pool, hot tub, poolside bar, multi-use cinema room, lounge and concierge services. This new addition comes on the heels of The Abaco Club’s recent fitness center renovation, as well as the development of new pickleball and basketball courts. There will be a new putting course designed by Abaco resident and Open Champion Darren Clarke.
Another perk: membership extends beyond the shores of The Abaco Club with reciprocal membership privileges at all of Southworth ’s private club communities. Updates are already underway or completed at several clubs. These reinvestments include nearly $75 million in new amenities added across the portfolio over the next five years and another estimated $400 million in residential development. The reimagining of Southworth comes as the next generation of family leadership, president Tommy Southworth and managing principal, Matt Deitch, have appointed new executive leadership to execute on their vision of developing decidedly different, leading-edge private club communities for a new generation. “We develop, own, operate and call these communities home, which means we’re here for the long term and that is a key differentiator of our company. We don’t build and run, but we continue to operate, improve and enhance our clubs, giving our members and residents confidence in the Southworth brand,” says Southworth. “We are obsessively intentional about creating fulfilling private club communities, built on the bedrock of human connection. I believe this difference can truly be seen and felt by our members and the larger industry as we enter this new chapter.”
