The Week of Hope will launch on Monday January 21, 2019 in Palm Beach, Florida, when up to 40 local business owners at The Royal Poinciana Plaza will place a two-foot wide yellow statement balloon by their front door to symbolize hope and their commitment to raising depression and mental health awareness. “The Royal Poinciana Plaza is proud to participate in the Week of Hope and do our part to stimulate life-saving conversations around mental health,” said Alexandra Patterson, Senior Director of Development and Interim General Manager of The Royal Poinciana Plaza. “We are passionate about working with an organization that represents hope and is committed to changing the statistics surrounding mental health”. The Week of Hope is created by Palm Beach resident Audrey Gruss’ Hope for Depression Research Foundation, the leading non-profit dedicated solely to fighting depression through research and education.
The message of the Week of Hope will be amplified by other activities throughout town:
On Sunday January 27, the final day of the Week of Hope, Audrey Gruss and Palm Beach resident Scott Snyder will lead the inaugural Race of HOPE + 5K Walk along the North trail and through the scenic streets of Palm Beach at 8am. Legendary photographer Harry Benson will take a portrait of the fastest male and fastest female finisher. Participants have registered from all over South Florida to unite as a community and raise awareness and funds to defeat depression. 100% of proceeds from the Race will fund groundbreaking research into the root causes of depression in the brain and new and better treatments. On Thursday January 17, from 11am to 1pm, Michael Kors Collection on Worth Avenue (226A Worth Ave, Palm Beach, FL 33480) will hold an exclusive shopping to promote awareness where they will donate 20% of proceeds from sales to HDRF. No registration is required to attend.
The Race of Hope comes to Palm Beach following its success over the past three summers in Southampton, where last year it raised more than $250,000 for advanced depression research.
